Philosophy
of Worship
- I
believe that God is actively searching
for worshippers who will worship Him from
their hearts and with abandon.
-
I believe that true worship brings us
to a point of fresh surrender and submission
to the Lord’s will. True worshippers
will exhibit the character of Christ in
an ever-maturing way, realizing that they
are continually being transformed into
His image.
-
The more I focus my gaze upon the Lord,
the more I avail myself to His hand, then
the more He works His fruit into my life.
I find myself becoming more gentle, more
patient, more loving, more willing to
overlook the faults of others, and so
on.
-
I believe that the act of worship cannot
be observed, though you can see the result
of worship. It is not in the lifting of
hands, the exuberance of emotion, or the
stillness of propriety that worship is
observed, because worship is a matter
of the heart. We can only see the residue
or bi-product of worship, and that is
the ever-emerging character of Jesus in
a person’s life. Show me a congregation
that is struggling with the self-life,
one that is encumbered with worldly cares,
one that is battling and devouring each
other, and I will show you a congregation
that is not truly worshipping. Show me
a congregation that is marked by an appetite
for God’s presence, a thirst for
the things of God’s kingdom, one
that walks in transparency, genuineness,
and humility toward each other, one with
a compassionate heart for the lost and
downtrodden, a desire to reach those around
them for the Lord, and I will show you
a congregation that truly worships, for
you become like whatever you worship.
True worship brings a manifestation of
God’s presence in the life of a
believer.
-
Every believer is called to minister to
the Lord first and foremost. Worship is
the only eternal ministry on this side
of heaven. As important as evangelism
is, one day we will no longer need to
evangelize. As vital a ministry as intercession
is, one day we will no longer need to
stand in the gap. However, the people
of God will forever be worshipping the
Lord. Everything that God has called His
people to do must flow from a fresh heart
of worship. Otherwise, the heart of God’s
Bride is easily led astray, regardless
of how seemingly right her motives appear
to be.
- Every
single thing in a believer’s life
is to be taken to the Cross, until He
is our greatest desire, and our very life.
The aim of a christian/worshipper (they
should be the same thing) is to know Jesus,
to spend time with Him, to sit at His
feet, to listen to His voice, to live
his life in a constant state of abiding
and resting in Him. The result will be
Christ likeness…for people become
like whatever they worship. A worshipper
will cling to Jesus alone and will pursue
Him in deliberate and careful study of
God’s Word. In turn, he will disciple
others to the person of Jesus and a passionate
relationship with Him. This is the natural
outflow of his love relationship with
the Master.
- I
believe that those who are called to minister
to the Lord and to His Body through the
Arts, on an instrument, with their voice,
or through the writing, composing, and
arranging of music are called to hone
their skills through training and practice,
to give the Lord their best, to become
excellent in what they offer to the Lord.
The more time they spend before the Lord
on their instrument and in prayer, the
more sensitive to His leading that they
will become.
- I
believe that music is a spiritual force
that can either draw people to the Lord
or away from Him. It is used quite successfully
in the worldly medium and by the enemy
of our souls to capture and ensnare mankind.
God captures our hearts through His love,
and, in the same manner, transforms us.
It is only as people learn to respond
to God’s love that their motivation
for spiritual, heartfelt service will
be correct. I believe that God is pursuing
people who will yield to Him their very
lives. He will use these precious people
to draw the saved and the yet-to-be-saved
closer to Himself.
May the Lord keep us in a place of absolute
dependence and childlike trust upon Him,
for, truly, apart from Him we can do nothing.
Dear
Father,
I come before You today confessing that
I am desperate for You.
I am absolutely dependent upon You and cling
to You as my very life.
Father, would You so work the fragrance
of Your presence into my life that every
person that I encounter today would sense
You in me.
Reveal the goodness and kindness of Your
heart through me today, Lord.
And I’ll be careful to give You all
of the praise and all of the glory.
In Jesus’ all-powerful Name, Amen.
For
Reflection
Psalm 37:4 – delight in the Lord and
He will give you the desires you should
have.
John 4: 20-26 – this is Jesus’
longest discourse on the subject of worship.
2
Corinthians 3:18 – we are changed
as we gaze upon God’s glory with an
honest heart.
